Marine Pipe Fitter

Basic Job Description:

Piping Technician to work on a wide range of Maritime Piping Systems and related products. Ships have a maze of pipes that carry gas, steam water and other vapours in order to run. The trade`s people that connect assemble and maintain these pipe systems are called marine Pipe Fitters. Pipe Fitters are involved in the installation and maintenance of Fire Fighting, Bilge, Hydraulic Steering, sanitary, potable water, Hot water heating, fuel, and exhaust piping system on Ships. Marine Pipe fitter fit into the group of "pipe trades," which deals with the installation, maintenance and repair of piping systems.

  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements
  • Cut openings for pipe using hand or power tools or machines
  • Select type and size of pipe required
  • Overhaul or replace pumps and valves
  • Install piping systems according to blueprints and regulations
  • Repair piping systems through replacement of defective pipes or joints through soldering, silbrazing, sweating, or welding
  • Test system for leaks using testing equipment
  • Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings
  • Follow strict test procedures in the accomplishment of systems testing
  • Report problems with testing procedures to engineering group
  • pipefitters work either aboard ships or on ships at dockyard

Marine Pipe Fitters are highly in demand in India and abroad. It is a very specialized field and draws one of the highest salaries in construction industry.

The course curriculum covers industry requirements for employment in Shipyards and Marine related industries such as Oil & Gas, Offshore, Ports & Harbours, equipment manufacturers & service, Merchant Navy etc in India and abroad. The DNV GL approval is widely accepted in Middle East, Europe and Far East countries. In light of above, this program provides huge employment to the young generation. Their work criteria changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with. As the industrial sector has drastically risen in pace and technology the need for more technically trained professionals has increased exponentially.

Training Course at College of Ship Technology:

Objective : The program is designed to educate and train the students in ship building technology with a view to perform Marine Pipe Fitting jobs at ship building or ship repair industries which is of highest standard.

Program Structure : The program is designed as a combination of Lecture and Practical`s at College workshops.

Eligibility Criteria : The basic qualification for the admission of the Course is a pass in Plus Two Exam / ITI

Duration : The program is of Five months

Intake Strength : 20 trainees per batch.

Attendance : The students are required to have 80% attendance.

Approval & Certification : Det Norske Veritas - Germanisher Llyod (Norway)

Food & Accommodation : Hostel & Mess available at College
