Marine Fitter

Basic Job Description:
  • using tools, machines, equipment and engineering techniques to maintain and repair marine plant and equipment to operational standards
  • identifying a defect or worn mechanical components or equipment
  • repairing/replacing worn or faulty components or equipment, and modifications
  • repairing or manufacturing parts using general application of workshop machines including lathes, milling and drilling machines
  • utilizing thermal heating, cutting and welding equipment.
  • apply quality systems, maintain and overhaul mechanical equipment
  • perform fault finding diagnostics, use power tools and hand held operations
  • shut down and isolate machines and equipment, maintain and update components such as boiler tubes, perform precision mechanical measurements plan a complete activity.

Marine Fitters are highly in demand in India and abroad; in fact they are recorded as highest paid workers in construction industry.

The course curriculum covers industry requirements for employment in Shipyards and Marine related industries such as Oil & Gas, Offshore, Ports & Harbours, equipment manufacturers & service, Merchant Navy etc in India and abroad. The DNV GL approval is widely accepted in Middle East, Europe and Far East countries. In light of above, this program provides huge employment to the young generation. Their work criteria changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with. As the industrial sector has drastically risen in pace and technology the need for more technically trained professionals has increased exponentially.

About the Course

Ship Building is a combination of art, science and Engineering. But there are a number of other important factors too to be considered in ship building. Therefore, the curriculum includes types of ships, materials, welding and cutting, ship structure, outfitting, design ,dimensions, displacement, stability, propulsive characteristics, Hull form, general arrangement, structural details, prefabrication, shell plating, framing, decks, Hatches, superstructure, tanker construction, pumping, piping, painting, corrosion control, ventilation, refrigeration, testing, launching, international regulations and shipyard layout etc. Training is provided in well-equipped workshop manned by able and experienced trainers. Training are also imparted at select shipyards, repair firms etc.

Training Course at College of Ship Technology:
  • Objective: The program is designed to educate and train the students in ship building technology with a view to perform Marine Fitting jobs at ship building or ship repair industries which is of highest standard.
  • Program Structure: The program is designed as a combination of Lecture and Practical`s at College workshops.
  • Eligibility Criteria: The basic qualification for the admission of the Course is a pass in Plus Two Exam / ITI
  • Duration: The program is of Five months
  • Intake Strength: 20 trainees per batch.
  • Attendance: The students are required to have 80% attendance.
  • Approval & Certification: Det Norske Veritas - Germanisher Llyod (Norway)
  • Food & Accommodation: Hostel & Mess available at College
