About College of Ship Technology


College of Ship Technology is currently focusing on imparting Marine Technical courses related to the Ship Building and Ship Repair Industry. College of Ship Technology commenced its operation atPuthucode.

College is Affiliated to Indian Maritime University (Govt. of India) for B.Sc. Programme .In addition the College has also launched 16 Week Bridge Course for B.Tech. (Electrical) graduates to convert them into Shipbuilding Engineers with Electrical specialization. All the courses are technically supported by M/s. Rolls-Royce (Marine), Finland, M/s. Akzo-Nobel Paints, The Netherlands, and M/s. Demag Cranes, Germany etc.

The College runs following courses in line with the requirement of current ship yard practices.

1. B.Sc. SHIP BUILDING & REPAIR – 03 YEARS.(Approved by Indian Maritime University)

2. Post Graduate Certificate in SBR for B.Tech. Electrical 24 weeks (Approved by Vinayaka Mission Sikkim University)

3. Kerala Govt. Certificate Examinations in Engineering (KGCE) in Ship Production & Repair*- Approved by Govt. of Kerala and Certification by DIRECTORATE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION, GOVT. OF KERALA with specialization in any of the following -
Ship’s Electrical/ Ship’s Welder / Ship’s piping / Ship’s Fitter.

*Denotes Subject to Approval of Govt. of Kerala

The admission criteria for the courses are:

B.Sc. SHIP BUILDING & REPAIR – + 2 Pass with minimum marks of 50% in MPC Stream. Admission is through Online Common Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University. Maximum age 25 yrs.

Bridge Course- B.Tech Graduate

Kerala Govt. Approved KGCE in Engineering Certificate program – Plus Two (PCM).

Highly experienced faculty, drawn from Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Shipyards and Engineering colleges, conduct theoretical and practical classes. The class strength is limited to 20 students for ensuring individual attention.

The courses are designed in such a way that the theoretical classes are complemented with extensive practical training in the Campus workshop and shipyards. We certainly understand the required standards of knowledge for carrying out various tasks in the shipyards, such as Fabrication, Welding, Cabling, Piping, Outfitting, Safety, QA&QC, Commissioning and Tests. Therefore, the curriculum and the tuition have been structured very well to meet current ship building standards covering all aspects of ship construction.

On the Job Training : We have tried up with M/s. Tebma Shipyards Limited, a leading privete shipyard in India for On the Job Training. During the training students will be deputed to the following departments for a week each to have hand-on training and work along with shipyard employees to have through knowledge shipyard operations.

11. Classes by professionals from respective department and Service Engineers from suppliers.

The courses will include topics on personal development, supervisory skills, ethics and ethical practices, language/communication skills and physical development while concentrating on core professional Ship Building subjects.
